Dr. Xiaoyun Liu is currently an associate professor of microbiology at School of Basic Medical Sciences, Peking University (PKU). He obtained his BS degree in chemistry from Jilin University in 2001 and his Ph.D in biological mass spectrometry under the guidance of Prof. David Clemmer at Indiana University Bloomington in 2008. After a postdoctoral training in bacterial pathogenesis with Prof. Jorge Galán at Yale University School of Medicine, he joined PKU chemistry as an assistant professor in 2012 and moved to the medical school in 2019. His group is dedicated to understanding the mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions by harnessing the power of mass spectrometry. The research has led to the discovery of several novel protein post-translational modifications such as protein phosphocholination, phosphoribosyl-linked serine ubiquitination and protein ADP-riboxanation. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Nature, Molecular Cell, PLoS Pathogens, Molecular & Cellular Proteomics and Journal of Proteome Research.
